This healthy mixed berry smoothie is a great way to incorporate colorful berries into your diet and you better believe, it’s hard to say no to this pinky purple drink of dreams. In this recipe, I’ve added some healthy fats to help this feel more satisfying, so if you’re in a pinch and need a quick breakfast then this is perfect.
There is a ton of room to be creative with smoothies so feel free to try substituting different fruits or adding in some veggies to this recipe. This way, you can have something new every time and provide your body with diverse range of nutritious foods.
I need to say I love a thick smoothie, and with that said some blenders need a little convincing to make that happen. You can make it thick by using a tamper, (if your blender comes with one) or you can use a wooden spoon to stir while the smoothie is blending. To do this, you insert the spoon through the little opening on the lid of your blender and stir the mixture in the direction it’s blending. Just make sure to keep the end of the spoon above the blade so you don’t brake it. If you don’t want to do this just add more liquid and it will blend with no issues.
What if I don’t have plant milk?
If you don’t have any non-dairy milk then you can use water and it will still come out creamy due to the hemp seeds. I’ve tried this and it works perfect.
What if I don’t have hemp or flax seeds?
You could definitely try something else as a substitute or just leave them out completely. I’ve used sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and chia seeds and they all turn out well. Keep in mind that making a substitution might change the texture of the smoothie.
Does my fruit have to be frozen?
If you want you can use fresh fruit instead of frozen but your smoothie will come out a bit more runny and not cold. You can always add some ice to help that.
No honey or dates?
If you don’t have dates or honey, you can use agave or pure maple syrup instead. You can also leave them out completely.
